Our Story

Born from a love for a hidden Himalayan jewel

mykishtwar.com was founded in 2010 by Pradeep Parihar with one passionate purpose: to give Kishtwar — one of India's most breathtakingly beautiful yet underrepresented districts — a permanent, dedicated home on the internet.

Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, Kishtwar is a district of extraordinary contrasts: roaring rivers and hidden valleys, ancient temples and Sufi shrines, the world-renowned Kishtwar Sapphire, prized Saffron fields, and snow-dusted peaks that touch the clouds. Yet for years, this magical place barely existed online.

What began as a personal project to document the culture, tourism, and heritage of Kishtwar has grown into the district's most trusted digital platform — covering news, history, geography, spirituality, cuisine, music, and adventure.

We welcome writers, researchers, travelers, and locals to contribute through our Write For Us programme — ensuring the voice of Kishtwar is always told by those who know and love it best.

"mykishtwar.com is a website that offers the rich culture and heritage of the place — it will help tourists to explore more about the district of Kishtwar."

At its heart, mykishtwar.com is a labour of love for a place whose depth of history, natural grandeur, and cultural richness deserves to be known by the world.

Kishtwar's existence goes back to the Mahabharata era, when it was called Lohit Mandal — the Land of Saffron. Its recorded history stretches from the ancient name Kashthavata in the Rajatarangini (1063–1089 AD) through its annexation by Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1821, to its modern role as one of Jammu & Kashmir's most scenically spectacular districts.

mykishtwar.com exists to change the fact that very few people outside the Himalayan belt know this district's name. We are an independent, community-oriented platform committed to authentic storytelling, factual documentation, and the promotion of Kishtwar as a world-class destination for culture, spirituality, and adventure tourism.

Since 2011, we have published hundreds of articles, videos, maps, and resources — all freely accessible, all built on community contributions and a deep personal connection to this land.

Our mission remains the same as it was on day one: to provide a voice to the voiceless parts of the Himalayas and to ensure that the heritage of Kishtwar is preserved and promoted for future generations. Whether you are a traveler looking for your next adventure, a student researching local history, or a resident staying connected, MyKishtwar.com is your home.

IDEA BEHIND mykishtwar.com

“To make Kishtwar recognized worldwide as a land of natural beauty, culture, spirituality, and opportunities through the power of digital media.”

Today, MyKishtwar stands as more than just a website — it is a digital identity of Kishtwar and a proud initiative created with passion, dedication, and love for the homeland.
