Its climate shifts from temperate warmth in the town to sub-zero alpine cold in the high passes, giving every season a different face and every valley a character entirely its own.

Month-by-Month Weather Guide — Kishtwar Town
Kishtwar experiences four distinct seasons — long warm summers, pleasant spring and autumn, and short but intensely cold winters. The temperature varies significantly from valley floors to high-altitude passes, and rainfall is concentrated primarily in the monsoon months of July–August.
The Four Seasons of Kishtwar
🌸 Spring (March–May)
Kishtwar awakens in spring with temperatures rising from 10°C to 23°C. The valleys burst into colour with wildflowers, fruit orchards blossom, and the landscape turns a brilliant green. Ideal for hiking, trekking, and sightseeing. Roads to Sinthan Top begin to open from late April.
☀️ Summer (June–August)
Temperatures reach 20°C to 30°C in the valley — pleasant by Indian standards due to the altitude. June is warmest and sunniest. July–August bring the monsoon with rainfall up to 91mm/month — lush but with landslide risk on mountain roads. Carry rain gear.
🍂 Autumn (Sep–November)
The finest season in Kishtwar. Temperatures are 13°C to 32°C, skies are clear, and the Chinars turn golden-red. October–November is Saffron season — the fields turn purple. November and February are cited as the best months to visit Kishtwar.
❄️ Winter (Dec–February)
Cold and dramatic. Town temperatures range from -2°C to 21°C. High areas see sub-zero temperatures and heavy snowfall. Warwan, Marwah, Dachhan, and Paddar are cut off from the rest of the world for 5–6 months. Chowgan transforms into a skiing and sledging paradise.
Climate at High Altitudes — Paddar, Marwah & Warwan
While Kishtwar town enjoys a relatively moderate Himalayan climate, the higher-altitude tehsils experience dramatically harsher conditions. Most areas of Tehsil Paddar and Marwah remain snow-bound for five to six months of the year. Block Warwan, Block Marwah, and some areas of Dachhan and Paddar remain completely cut off from the rest of the world during winter — accessible only by air or on foot.
