At the GoriShankar Mandir Sarkoot, the day commenced with the observance of rituals traditionally associated with Shri Krishna Janmashtami. These rituals included an early morning Hawan (ritual fire ceremony) followed by the solemn Poorna Ahuti ceremony.
One of the most captivating aspects of the festivities was the religious processions that wound through every alley and street of the district, a cherished tradition that was upheld with great reverence.
In Kishtwar, the grand Shobha Yatra commenced at the Gori Shankar Mandir, meandering through Parade Ground, Dakbunglow Road, Shaheedi Road, Om Mehta Chowk, Bus Stand, and culminated at Ram Mandir. The procession was led by thousands of devotees, accompanied by representatives of Sanatan Dharma Sabha and Ekal Abhiyan, who chanted bhajans (devotional songs) and kirtans (spiritual hymns) as they advanced along the route. The Shobha Yatra was a vibrant spectacle, with children dressed as Lord Krishna and Radha, adding a burst of color to the procession. The procession was also attended by Jhankies (traditional performers) from the town and neighboring villages.
Remarkably, the Shobha Yatra saw active participation from the Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav, IAS, and SSP Kishtwar, Khalil Ahmed Poswal, JKPS. Not only did they join the procession, but they also oversaw security measures, traffic management, and logistical arrangements.
The event was further graced by the presence of ADDC Kishtwar Sham Lal, ADC Kishtwar Inderjeet Singh Parihar, ACR Varunjeet Singh Charak, Dy DEO Naresh Kumar, Tehsildar Kishtwar Muneeb Umar, State Taxes Officer Maneet Sharma, along with other prominent civil, police, and army officers, who extended their warmest greetings to the people of Kishtwar on this joyous occasion of Janmashtami.
The district administration spared no effort in ensuring the seamless execution of the celebrations, providing foolproof security, efficient traffic management, medical facilities, and ample water and sanitation facilities for the convenience of all attendees.
Eminent socio-religious figures, including Mahant Shri Ram Sharan Das Ji, District President of Sanatan Dharma Sabha Kishtwar, Surinder Kumar Sen, and former Minister Sunil Sharma, were among the thousands of devotees who joined in the jubilation at the revered Gori Shankar Mandir Kishtwar.
