Seminar on 'Hazards of Plastic Waste in the Environment and Measures to Manage it' conducted at GDC Kishtwar Under Mission Life:Life Style for Environment Programme


Eco Club and NSS Unit of GDC Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Pollution Control Committee Kishtwar, hosted a seminar addressing the critical issue of plastic waste in the environment and strategies to manage it, as part of the Mission Life: Life Style for Environment Programme,today.


The event featured esteemed keynote speakers, Dr. Mohan Snehi (Divisional Officer, Pollution Control Committee Kishtwar) and Dr. Ravi Sharma (Senior Manager Environment, Kiru Hydro Electric Project CVPP).


Dr. Snehi provided a comprehensive overview of plastic types, shared intriguing facts, and delved into the significant problems and hazardous effects of plastic on our ecosystem. The seminar commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Sehrish Gazal, HOD of Environmental Sciences.


Dr. Ravi Sharma not only highlighted the challenges posed by plastic but also showcased his creative side by presenting his composition titled “Nanhi se Bacchi” on environmental pollution. His thought-provoking poetry resonated with the audience, prompting reflection on individual responsibilities towards environmental preservation.


Prof. Basharat Iqbal, Principal of GDC Kishtwar, commended the speakers for their contributions and lauded the committee for organizing an engaging and informative session crucial for the current environmental scenario. He stressed the significance of individual roles in protecting and safeguarding our environment.


Approximately 150 students actively participated in the seminar, gaining valuable insights. Notable faculty members in attendance included Prof. N.K.Manhas, Dr. Yasar Ahmed, Prof. Ajeet Kumar, Dr. Jaideep Kumar, Dr. Tabassum Saleem, Dr. Waheed Hurra, Prof. Om Raj, Dr. Kulbhushan Kumar, and Prof. Tenzen Namkha.


The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Tabassum Saleem, underscoring the success of the event in fostering awareness about plastic waste management and environmental conservation.
