DC Kishtwar Assesses Earthquake Damages in Kishtwar


Kishtwar, July 10, 2023 


Today, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar Dr. Devansh Yadav (IAS) visited Kishtwar town to conduct an assessment of the damages caused by the recent earthquake that struck the area. 


He was accompanied with President MC Kishtwar Sajjad Najjar ; Tehsildar Kishtwar, Muneeb Umar; EO MC Kishtwar, Ninad Sen besides concerned Officer/officials



Fortunately, no loss of life has been reported from any part of the district. However, certain houses and buildings have experienced minor or partial cracks as a result of the strong tremors that occurred this morning.


In response to the situation,  ADC Kishtwar Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Tehsildars, and Police officers have been placed on high alert. They are actively engaging with the public and maintaining constant communication. 


The DC has urged the public to remain calm and vigilant during this time and to promptly report any emergencies or concerns to the respective ADC, SDM, Tehsildar, or the Control Room at the DC office.


The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and has initiated necessary measures to ensure public safety and support affected individuals. 


The Deputy Commissioner has directed concerned officials to promptly address any issues arising from the earthquake and provide the necessary assistance to those affected.


He also directed, President MC & EO MC Kishtwar to demolish, All risky & old dilapidated buildings in Kishtwar town after which tehsildar will issue notices for rectification & retrofittings.


He also directed EO MC and Tehsildar Kishtwar to immediately stop building constructions without having permission for competent authority.

The district administration would like to assure the residents of Kishtwar that all necessary steps are being taken to mitigate the impact of the earthquake and restore normalcy.


 The local administration is coordinating with relevant departments, including the disaster management authorities, to assess the situation comprehensively and provide relief where required.


The Deputy Commissioner extends his gratitude to the residents of Kishtwar for their cooperation and urges them to follow the guidelines issued by the district administration. The administration remains committed to the well-being of the public and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
